iPhone NDA to be lifted. Kind of.

iPhone Developers everywhere are rejoicing, at the news that the iPhone NDA is to be lifted. At least for “released iPhone software”.

What that actually means in practice is anyone’s guess, as none of the iPhone SDK has been “released” as such – if you download something from ADC, its generally considered to be “pre-release”, and is covered under a more general NDA that you accept as an ADC member.

Hopefully Apple will be more forthcoming and explicit about exactly what is and isn’t covered under the NDA, or will somehow “release” some version of the SDK and API documentation, so that we can finally talk about them.

Any doubt here tends to have a chilling effect on discussion, as very few developers are keen to even risk violating the terms of any Apple NDA.
